SAAMCo seeks to achieve long-term total return by investing in a combination of commodity-linked derivative instruments, including commodity futures, swaps, options and options on futures. These investments provide exposure to the return of real assets that trade in the commodities markets without direct investment in physical commodities. Real assets include industrial and precious metals, gas, oil, livestock, agricultural or meat products, among others.

Middleton & Co. actively manages the asset allocation process. The firm establishes appropriate target ranges for the major asset classes within a portfolio based on each client's requirements for income, liquidity, capital appreciation, taxes and risk tolerance. Relative valuations among asset classes and forward-looking analysis are used to determine where, within the target range, the allocation should be set. Portfolios are adjusted as valuations change between asset classes.
