Henry Friesen is a Professor-Emeritus at the University of Manitoba, where he has been employed since 2000.
He was the Founding Chairman of Genome Canada from 2000 to 2005 and the Chairman of the Gairdner Foundation from 2002 to 2009.
He has also served as a Director for Spectral Medical, Inc., YM BioSciences, Inc., Trillium Therapeutics ULC, Sanofi Pasteur Ltd., and Lombard Life Sciences.
From 1991 to 2000, he was the President of the Medical Research Council of Canada and the National Cancer Institute of Canada.
He was also the President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research from 2000 to 2000 and the President of the Canadian Society For Clinical Investigation.
Friesen received his undergraduate degree from the University of Manitoba.
