The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is an organization that aims to protect the rights of journalists and publishers worldwide to operate independent media. The company is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and has subsidiaries in Switzerland. It provides its members with expertise and services to thrive in the digital world and fulfill their important role in society. With formal representative status at the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe, WAN-IFRA derives its authority from its network of leading news publishing companies and technology entrepreneurs, as well as its 60 national association members representing 18,000 publications in 120 countries. The German company was founded in 1948, and Vincent Peyrègne has been the CEO since 2012.
