Profil
Mr. Sameh El-Saharty is a Senior Health Policy Specialist of South Asia Region at The World Bank.
He a specialist in the Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice of the World Bank.
Since he joined the Bank in 1998, he has been responsible for leading the health policy dialog and strategy development for client countries as well as managing several programs and projects amounting to about $2.5 billion in more than 20 countries in three world regions.
His experience spans a wide range of health programs and systems including maternal and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, health service delivery, hospital management, human resources, decentralization, health insurance and health reform.
In the last couple of years, he has been working on cross cutting issues such as knowledge management, implementation research, and science of delivery in the health sector.
In addition to his professional work at the World Bank, he holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor of International Health at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
He also serves as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council of Harvard School of Public Health and is the President Elect of the School’s Alumni Council.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Mr. El-Saharty has worked for several organizations including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Pathfinder International, Clark Atlanta University, the American University in Cairo, Vinci, Ministry of Health in Egypt, and Cairo University’s School of Medicine.
He also worked for part-time or provided short-term consultancies to several organizations including Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA), Management Sciences for Health, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
